There are other threads on here about training. Come is probably the most valuable, yes. Glad he wasn't seriously hurt. I'd suggest keeping a leash on him even while in the house. Its easy to step on with they want to run. But more than that, you are able to give a quick snap and correct him when you give him a command that he doesn't listen to. Practice stay and come with someone else if you can. I suggested using a treat jar to shake and then give them their favorite treat when you shake it and they come. Mine hear that and come running every time! My trainer says to NEVER use the word come, unless you are ready with a treat. It should be the most rewarding command. Can you take him to a puppy class?
