All of our purebreds today were given a chance in the past when they were still being mixed from mutts to create our purebreds that we've come to know.
HOWEVER, even back in the day, people didn't pay big bucks for those first few generations until there was at least an established phenotype and thus the "purebred" was born.
So, that arguement (I received in an e-mail) isn't a valid one. Purebreds fetch the kind of money today because they, for the most part, have a higher percentage to be a "known quantity". You have a better idea as to what you're going to be getting at maturity. |
