You shouldn't have to pay $4000 for a female, that's just not true. You can get a very nice female for $1400 from a reputable breeder, I'm sure.
Take your time and continue to research the breeders before you buy from them. I agree with BamaFan, most reputable breeders don't release their pups until they are 12 weeks of age...8 weeks is just too young to be separated from the mom and littermates, in my opinion.
