Yes, it is labor intensive - but me, my hubby, and my son-in-law did it several years ago. We took up the carpet in the living room and a large master suite and hall and we put down the wood in 2 1/2 days. It was a lot of work, but can be done - it's not hard, just is hard work. You will save about 1/2. Labor to lay wood, tile, etc costs about as much as the flooring.
