I have flown with dogs in the cabin but have also had to put my golden down below. She didn't have any problems BUT...I think I agree that I would rather my little one be a little uncomfortable and with me than down below. It probably won't be a very long flight and she'll just sleep most of the way anyway...so she won't need to stand up. In my experience they have never checked the size of the dog before, just ask the weight. I have never had them ask to see the dog inside.
