Me, too! I am very tenderhearted and just hearing about a bad thing happening to someone else's dog will bring the tears. My furkids are a blessing to me and to other people, too. I can't stand to read about puppy mills and all the horrible things that happen there and how the dogs live.
A woman got arrested a few weeks ago here in East Tennessee for dragging her Chihuahua behind her vehicle for almost a mile. The little dog was skinned up and bruised, but didn't have any broken bones. The dog recovered completely and looks good now. The woman said her child tied the dog to the vehicle and she didn't know it. She did get the dog back after going to court and paying all the vet bills. I hope she was telling the truth and wouldn't really do something like that!
My sister says in her next life she wants to be one of my dogs. I will tell you right up front that Lacy and Cosmo pretty much come first at my house. I love them with all my heart and love having them around. I could talk for a very long time telling you all the ways they make my life better. If I didn't love them and want them, I wouldn't have them. I would go just as far to protect them as I would for any other family member. I decided they would live with me and I am responsible for their health and well being. I used to get some "looks" when I was working (I'm now retired) from people who thought I was nuts, but it never bothered me. It has been my experience that people who love animals also love people and if they are kind to animals they are kind to people. The opposite is also true. If a person will mistreat an animal, he will mistreat a person. I don't trust anyone that my dogs don't like. They have very good instincts.
