When I say supplement, I mean that I bottle fed Angel. She still nursed too. I used a powdered puppy formula to which I added the required water, puppy drops, and Dyne, a vanilla flavored high calorie supplement. At three weeks, I started Angel of runny canned puppy food, to which I added the Dyne. Once she was eating good, I quite supplementing with the formula. I am not sure how I knew she was out of the woods. I was always waiting for something to happen. This is one reason she went to the vets' often (Thank goodness our vet is cheap and compassionate. He did not charge us if we were taking in other dogs for things and shared the visit with them) When she reached a pound I celebrated. I think now at 8 months she is 3 pounds. Michele's vet now is helping her to put weight on Angel. After Angel was weaned a lady that raises yorkies told me that if a mother does not think she has enough to feed all the puppies she will pick the smallest one to sacrifice. Not that there is anything wrong with it. This made me feel better because Angel's litter was a whopping 8! She was by far the smallest. I feel this is the reason that Angel was taken from the box instead of a problem. I know this is not always the case though.
