i'm a surgical vet tech in an emergency clinic at the moment, and i've worked in regular vet's offices for years. in all that i've seen and with all the vet's i've worked with, simple spays and neuters on healthy pups that have had no prior problems do not need pre-op bloods done. yorkies have just as much a chance as lab pups for something to go wrong, bloods or no bloods. the average age for bloods before surgery's are 8 years for simple pro-op bloods and 10 for complete pre-op bloods, OR if they are going in for major surgery full blood work should be done. if someone wants to get it done, go for it, but its not going to make or break the surgery in most instances.
