Isolating a dog as a punishment is ineffective because by the time you get them to the crate they have no idea that they did anything wrong. Make a loud noise. I clap my hands and say HEY. that usually startles them into stopping what they are doing.

the problem with spray bottle is you won't always have one in your hand, and you have to correct the behavior instantly.


As for the chewing and ripping paper, I think most of them do this. keep everything out of reach that you don't want them to have. Think of them as a toddler, and just keep things out of their reach until they mature.
