We have had a our cat for almost 5 years, we've had our dog 2. To make the transition easier for the cat we gave her her own room. We put up a baby gate & the dog is not allowed in there. That's where her food, & litter box are. It keeps the dog out of her stuff & she has a place to get away from him. It seems to work. Also we put the dog in his cage while we're at work & at night, this allows the cat to have free reign of the house at times during the day.
