I know it is time consuming driving all over the place to find a puppy. It will be a 15 yr companion, hopefully, so taking time is the best thing to do.
As for Size...double the 12 week weight and I would not buy under 12 weeks since size is so important to you.
Ask to speak to the vet is good advice you have been given..the way the breeder reacts to this requests will be helpful. I would ask the breeder in person for this information.
The story about the cousin being the owner may be true, but you need to meet the actual breeder and see the parents, where they were raised..you will not regret doing these things..best of luck.
