I don't know if this will help but you might try a manicure. I know..you have to have something to manicure! But...maybe if your nails and the skin around them looked nice and felt nice you wouldn't be tempted to pick/chew them. If you wear nail polish at all make sure you keep it chip free so you won't be tempted to pick...if you get a split or tear, correct it and keep your nails filed all the time. I don't wear nail polish...I use a buffer and cuticle oil...my nails are strong and the shine lasts for about a week before I have to do it again. For the rough skin around them use Neosporin and a bandaid at bedtime...you might be amazed at how quickly that stuff heals things...by the way...that's great to dab on blemishes at bedtime too! Even if your nails are short you can start taking care of them and that might make you want to make them even better.
