Rawhide is definately awful and very dangerous.

After just discovering these thanks to YT members I ordered a bulk amount off ebay also... WAY CHEAPER than $1.99 per stick at the petstore here.... I think that as long as they are kept in like a zip lock baggie or a sealed container they should stay just fine.
My kiddos like the regular bully sticks...
... and I know the bull wee wee thing is wild, but hey whatever they like I guess.
