Default My yorkie book says...

No chocolate --especially dark chocolate

No cooked bones -- cooking a bone causes the bone to become brittle, and it will break into sharp splinters when your dog swallows a piece

No Raisins, Grapes-- Recent studies have shown that raisins and grapes --even those that have been raised organically and have no pesticides-- can cause kidney failure in dogs. Other fruits and vegetables, though, are usually good treats. It says if your dog eats grapes or raisins to contact your vet right away -- it might be a medical emergency.

No Onions- Dogs don't have the enzyme needed to digest onions, so eating them can lead to severe gastrointestinal distress. Large amounts of onions can cause your dog to become anemic. Garlic can have the same effect, but dogs rarely eat enough garlic to cause a substantial problem

No uncooked bread dough -- it ferments and turns into alcohol in a dog's system which can poison your yorkie

No greasy, fatty foods -- cause pancreatitis

No caffeine -- an overdose of caffeine can cause your dog's heart to race, and too much can even cause cardiac arrest

No avacados - a toxic component called "persin" is the culprit. Dogs have died from eating avocados, but the toxic does isn't yet known.

No macadamia nuts - as few as six nuts have caused severe toxic reactions in dogs

To learn more about toxic foods and other substances, go to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center's website (www.aspca.org).
