Leave him in the crate so he can learn to deal with it. He'll never learn otherwise. That would be like putting a child in a playpen, then moving it to each room while you clean. It would be better to teach the dog a needed skill, i.e., that sometimes he's going to have to deal with being crated, than to keep giving in to the whining. Another thing, teach the word "NO" and enforce it. That helps alot when you're trying to sweep, I know, I have wood floors too!
