Help Please--Fleas/Ticks Last night I gave Yoda a bath. As I was drying him, I noticed something around his pee area. It looked like a tick, so I called my hubby in and he said it was a tick. Talk about being scared. After all, this was in a very sensitive spot. Yoda was such a good boy while we got the tick out. He still has a small swollen area where the tick was but it looks better this morning.
We live in a very wooded/agricultural area. Fleas/ticks are prevelant here. Yoda is only outside to do his business and for short walks. Our vet said that we could use a flea preventative every two weeks if need be. The one I used two weeks ago was Advanticks as we had tried Frontline and Yoda still had fleas and had already had a small tick. Yesterday was time for his flea/tick prevention. After he was dry, we tried something new. We have now tried two different Advantage preventatives, Frontline and two Walmart brand flea preventatives.
I am worried because since I put the one on him last night, he has been rolling around like a mad man and biting and scratching himself. As I was drying and brushing him, I found about five fleas moving on him. I got those off. He doesn't appear to be covered but the tick last night really has me nervous.
I am worried that I am not getting the preventative(s) on right. I follow the directions. I seperate the hair and go from the top down to the bottom. For the first day after I can tell in the hair in that area that he has been treated. I know it is supposed to soak into the skin.
My husband thinks maybe this preventative is working. I wonder if I should give him a bath and wait two weeks. I can always take him to the vet, try something else and ask them to show me how to put it on to ensure that I am doing it right.
This is making me nuts....If Yoda was a human baby, I could call mom. Any thoughts for all of you experienced furbaby mommies? I hate to think he is uncomfortable.
