My girl currently has scabies. She was a rescue and I was told that she had a bad case of the fleas. She had been to the vet and treated for fleas, but her skin was still very flaky, she was itchy, and she had some sore spots. I had her for two weeks before it was time to take her to the vet again. During that time I changed her food and started her on missing link, bathed her with oatmeal, all to no avail. I take her to the vet and he tells me she has scabies. I was not happy, as I have a few other dogs also, plus two children under the age of nine. However, they gave me some medicine that I have to dip her in once a week for four weeks. She had her first treatment on this past Monday and by Thursday, she looked a million times better, did not scratch nearly as much, and was much more active. The vet said that after the second dip she wouldn't be contagious anymore, but until then we needed to wash very good after handling her so as not to catch it ourselves, not to let her sleep with anyone, and not to let her play with other dogs. It can be overcome... just be patient.
