I think the tea tree oil works best. I have used it by rubbing it on thick and leaving it soak for 10 minutes before a bath.
Then I use a shampoo like T-gel with a soft baby brush on the ears (brush gets the circulation going) in the bath. Dry them off well and then clean the ears daily with the oil on a cotton ball.

This has worked for me better than anything.
