My ears were pierced as a baby but I got my second hole at 16, and third hole at 19. It was a big deal, especially when I got my belly button pierced at 18. My family is very traditional and hates piercing, tatooes, etc. but the ears were an easy one to talk them into, the belly button they didn't know about and were FURIOUS when they found out.
But like everything else, they got over it. The belly button ring was the only rebelious thing I did
