We were in Tornado warnings until 5am this morning. I was really scared, never been in a Tornado before. My husband works in Americus, which is where we lived until May of last year. I called and told him to come home. About 9o'clock last night Americus got hit HARD and right downtown. The hospital (where I had my son in July) was severely damaged and they had to shut it down and transport patients to the hospital here where I live now. It flattened lots of Dr's offices and the Winn Dixie shopping center was flattened. There are 2 confirmed fatalities up there so far. Their fire and ems stations were also hit. Lots of devistation.
Right after that, we were watching the news and DH said well it is just rain now, lets go to bed, nothing going to happen. This was at 11:25 or so. At 11:45 another tornado formed and went through the county just south of us and destroyed some mobile homes and killed 6 people who were all members of two families. One was a 12 year old little girl.
I thank GOD that it did not hit us. Seems like we were just like a little area in the middle that got nothing but alot of heavy rain and wind. |
