I think it just all depends on the dog. My yorkies are way more laid back than my husband's brother's maltese. His maltese is very hyper and also a big barker and my yorkies aren't. Of course I've read where others had yorkies that were barkers. I think both breeds seem to get along well with people and other animals. Seems they have alot of the same health issues also. Again, it just all depends on the dog but I do love my yorkies
