Question Need advice on boarding vs. staying home with visitors?

I have turned into a huge lurker but now have a question and I was hoping you could all give me advice...

I am pregnant and will deliver within the next two weeks. My DH insists on staying in the hospital with me, even though I would rather he come home at night to be with Oliver. I can't blame him for that though! Anyway, Oliver gets crated during the day from 7:45 until 4 pm. And then he is crated at night to sleep. I am not worried about those times but am worried about the time between 4 pm and 10 pm when we are usually home with him. I would love to have him come to the hospital at night - I was admitted in August and he spent 3 days in the hospital with me and was fine. I just don't know if they will allow dogs on the maternity ward... or if it will be too stressful for him because there will be a new baby there and it's not his territory.

Here's my question: Should be board him or just have people over to check up on him and play with him?

He's still technically a puppy so he does get really excited when people come over, which may make it hard to take him to the bathroom and play with him. I also worry that people will be wanting to come see the baby at the hspital and not the dog. We have never boarded him before so I am not sure what to think about it. I know plenty of people do it and we would board him at our vet who says they take the dogs out to be walked 4 times a day. I guess I just worry that he will be alone in the pen with all those barking dogs nearby.

Obviously Oliver is my "real" baby at the moment and I know that he is pretty adaptable. I am sure he would be okay home alone (with visitors) for 2 days but I still worry that he'll be lonely. Also, we plan on going to Europe to see my grandparents in September and will maybe need to board him then and don't know if this would be a good introduction to the place for him.

So any advice? Have you boarded your Yorkie? Was it a positive experience? Would he be okay home with visitors?

What would you do?
