I really think that it's each individual dog's personality. I personally love my male yorkie...He is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever known! He doesn't hump, he doesn't mark in the house, he follows me and my husband everywhere. He doesn't bark unless he thinks there's someone at the door, and he loves to give kisses. As far as females go, I just recently got a maltese female, and she is very sweet too, but she's more protective of us. She thinks she's a big dog, and she's only 3.5 lbs! Honestly I think it depends on the dog.
