I at first thought it might be his hearing also -- but this is a little dog who, if he hears something of interest on TV (especially if it's a woman's voice singing), will stop what he's doing and stare up that the TV until it's over.
He also can hear the slightest movement on the landing outside my condo door. Yep. The little monkey hears just fine!
