Actually, that is all the room any dog needs in a crate. They need just enough room to stand, turn around, and lie down. Our huge dogs and our little dogs always have had crates with just that amount of room. Being den animals they need a confined space when they need their "alone time". When we did have our crates out for our dogs ( until they were between 2-3) they went in them often on their own .
