I groomed a Lhasa recently that had been to the vet for teeth cleaning a few days before. When I went to clip her nails I noticed that they were cut way back. I mean really short and obviously quicked (bled). It has only been a few days and she didn't appear to be sore at all. It you are going to have your dog sedated for the teeth anyway, I would go ahead and get the nails done at the same time. Afterwards the quick will recede back a bit more and you should be able to keep them short in the future.
