Sorry to laugh here, but I can just visualize those darlings having such a great time in a much larger area to explore, chasing each other, playing hide-n-seek.
Even if you fix that hole, they will make another since they now know how to do it.
I wonder if all three worked on that same area or just one chew it? Sit up a cam corder and hide awhile to see how they do it.
