My vet wasn't 100% sure since there were so many ingredients in the food. He didn't run tests--just said to try eliminating some things. My vet is a bit "old school" and doesn't recommend unnecessary tests. Plus, I trust his judgement--he's been in practice for 42 years! He said that she may have been getting diarrhea from the chicken and to try a food with lamb as the primary ingredient since it's milder. So I switched to California Natural Lamb meal and rice because not only did it have lamb meal as the primary ingredient, it has so few ingredients--I think it only has 5 or 6 ingredients. Abbie was fine almost immediately and she LOVES her food now, so obviously it was something in the Royal Canin
