It's your house and your dog(s). Rebel and Lucy both use pee pads and have regular times to go outside to play in my backyard. The pee pads are great because Lucy sleeps with me and if she has to go, she does and then comes back to bed without waking me up.
Rebel has really picked it up as well because he's learned by example. I love them and if anybody says anything.....well, don't come back!
