I just could not let it rest. Here is my email to the reporter who did that one-sided story:

"This story made myself and other pet owners very angry. Here are some rebuttal statements that you might want to consider for a follow-up story (regarding the rationale for pet licensing):

#1. Animals found injured are more likely to be given life-saving medical care if they're wearing a license.
Answer: Will not the microchip and/or AKC pet finder tags accomplish the same goal?

#2. License fees help increase the shelter's pet-adoption work.
Answer. I would prefer to donate my money to a no kill shelter of my choosing.

#3. Lost pets are more likely to be returned to their owners.

In my view, pet licenses are just another way that the county rips off responsible citizens."
