A roached back is a heriditary trait in small breed dogs. Instead of a yorkie's back being straight across, the back humps up. The roached back, from what I've read, is usually hard...calcifies. They're neck are usually shorter, tail is on lower part of back and not up high. I've also read that there is a Shrimp back. With the shrimp back, the back is more flexible. At times it may be hunched up and other times, straight across.
