i took your advice and took chewy to the vet. it turns out that his first owners evidently declawed the bottom claw which is why i never noticed. anyway the vet said that the doctor who did this did not remove all what he/she was suppose to take out and left some of the bone there. needless to say, it took all this time but dirt, skin, and hair got in there and it filled up. the vet says this will be a reoccuring thing if it is not done properly. so he suggested that next time chewy gets his teeth cleaned, i should have the doc finish the job and remove the leftover bone.
