It is extremely difficult to toilet train a dog when no-one is there with them for such long periods of time. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is difficult. If your long hours are going to continue, I hate to say it, but I seriously doubt that training another puppy will be any easier. If this problem is driving you insane, you might want to reconsider that decision.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is my 2 cents worth. | It doesn't sound harsh at all. I understand completely where you're coming from. As far as keeping her away from an area that doesn't have carpet , I can do that. I'd rather put her in the laundry room because my kitchen is always occupied.
However , my thing is this. People are always saying how older dogs get , the longer they can hold their urine. I think that's the problem. She's running free around my house without supervision so she's doing as she pleases which has got to STOP. My mom said I need to put her in a crate while i'm at work. I feel like 8 hours is a long time to be stuck in a crate but I feel like that's the only way she's going to fully learn. She won't soil her crate. When I get home from work , I can take her right out of the crate and take her to a pee pee pad , praise her , and pray that she'll continue the process.
I think i'm going to make a schedule that doesn't conflict with my work schedule and try to go by that on a daily basis. Hopefully it'll help.
