The first thing that I would do, if I were you, would be to keep Zoey contained in an area that doesn't have carpet - like the kitchen or laundry room. Once the carpet smells like urine, it says to the dog: "pee here!". Keep her off the carpet when you aren't there to supervise her.

It is extremely difficult to toilet train a dog when no-one is there with them for such long periods of time. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is difficult. If your long hours are going to continue, I hate to say it, but I seriously doubt that training another puppy will be any easier. If this problem is driving you insane, you might want to reconsider that decision.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is my 2 cents worth.
