I also want to add, I know good reputable breeders check vet references on people who want a puppy, but I suggest any buyers/people looking to adopt or rehome from individuals also check out the current breeder/owners vet references....Talking to the persons vet gives you a LOAD of information on the type of environment the dog/puppy is coming from.
And if they say they have a vet appoitment with a certain vet at 4pm because the dog is so seriously ill that she isn't eating or drinking and then she doesn't show up for that appointment RUN LIKE THE WIND!! and don't look back.
