I have heard that at 6 months they will be fully-grown and can be switched over to adult food. I changed Sully over at 7 months from puppy to adult food b/c he no longer needed the added fat content in puppy food.
I think there are several different sides to this issue, though. You just have to look at your choices and reasons for each and make the best decision for your baby.
