I have 2 toy poodles and groom them myself. If you "fluff dry" their coat after you bathe them, it will be straight as opposed to curly. It won't get matted so easily. My apricot has hair that mats very easily so I brush him at least once a day and keep him cut shorter. My black has more silkier hair and I only brush her hair about twice a week and it stays mat free.

The products that I use are: Paramount Itty Bitty Puppy Kitty Shampoo, Paramount Conditioner, and Paramount Tangle & Mat Combat Conditioning Spray. You can only get them through Shure Pets (I sell them!).

Also, poodle puppies coats do change from the "cotton ball" texture to more silkier as they get older.

I have a great book that describes the entire grooming process and it also has step by step pictures. It has helped me a lot! It is: Poodle Clipping and Grooming: The International Reference.

Hope this helps!
