Having been involved in placing rescues, I will caution anyone looking for a rescue most of the time these are special needs dogs. Seldom does one turn up that isn't quite old already or have behaviour problems that sometimes can never be fixed, it is your management that will make a home for the dog you can live with and it seldom is what you think, or ongoing medical issues that can be costly, need to be housebroken which can take a very long time to accomplish even in an older adult.
Very seldom does one materialize that has been someone's great pet that is looking for a home because of relocation of the owner or untimely death of the owner. Those rescues most often find a home with a family member or friend.
The only ones I have placed were with people who truly understood what rescue was and were willing to take on the expenses of working with a good trainer I recommended. The couple of rescues that were old and had medical issues, I kept myself and paid their Vet bills.
That's the reality of rescue most of the time.
