Help With Abbie.... My baby Abbie is 1 year and 4 months old....she has ALWAYS been around other dogs (we also have a shih tzu) and she has adored him from the beginning. Well, we wanted to get another puppy, as I am a lover of yorkies and would have an entire house full if I could! We purchased a baby boy from the same breeder that we purchased Abbie from because we trust her, and we also know her personally! Anyway, the minute we brought Baby Simba in the door, Abbie hasn't acted right AT ALL. She will not come off the sofa....she won't drink water out of her bowl nor sleep in her bed because his scent is on them (so I'm guessing). I had to go and get her some nutri cal because she's not eaten anything hardly either. She has lost some weight, nothing drastic, but I can tell....she's a big female, nearly 11 pounds, but still, any weight at all frightens me. She has eaten a small amount of boiled chicken, which she vomited some of the next day, and I just got her to eat a small amount of liver mush. She has held that down, which I'm thankful for!
When she does get down from the sofa, she keeps a careful eye on the newcomer, and if he even gets close, she runs and hides. I have talked with the breeder about it, and she tells me that it takes a while for them to get used to other puppies, and that she'll come around. The shih tzu has warmed up to him somewhat, but not Abbie. She does drink water, and she uses the piddle pad....only if I wash her bowl and refill it and put her down a new piddle pad, because he has been using it also.
She has never been a territorial dog, and is always very evenly tempered. But this has changed her....And I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but she was just in heat about 3 weeks ago, and maybe it's hormones? FYI she is to be fixed in 2 months.....
Please help. She is so depressed that I'm not sure whether to give the new puppy up or what. Thanks so much! |
