Thats kinda funny! I am the same way - I feel so over protective!
When we first got Truffles, my husband stepped on her with his steel toed boots on, and poor baby was crying and running with her leg up in the air. By the time we left for the vet she seemed fine, but I took her anyway. She was fine - dr couldn't even make her whimper.
Then I had to leave town and left her here with my sons and had a friend come over twice a day. When I got home she was running but with a limp. I took her again. This time they could validate what I saw, but said it would heal fine - it was minor.
Now the big ones. I have figured Vixxen out now! But for the first year, I think I actually had her admitted into the hospital 2 times because she wouldn't eat and then would vomit. I was worried she'd dehydrate quickly and rushed her in. SOME ERs convince you that your pet has to stay and I'M convinced they just want the money. Anyway, now I know how to "force" Vixxen to eat when she gets this way and she hasn't had to go back since I figured her out!
So yes, I've racked up the bucks right along with ya! Ouch....
