If you guys are seriously thinking about tile, may I make a suggestion? Stay away from ceramic. Go with either porcelain or slate. The main reason is that ceramic has a terra-cotta colored base with a glaze over it. Drop something the wrong way and off comes a chip of the color. Porcelain and slate are the same color all the way through. Porcelain is about the same price, however, slate will set you back a bit more. It all depends on the color you're looking for.

In addition, make sure to seal the grout VERY WELL. Dog urine is contains a lot of oil and it can change the color of your grout, especially if you choose a lighter color. There are sealants out there, however, I haven't found one worth recommending. I'm going to try sealing my bathroom tile with polyurethane. Not sure how it will work, but it's worth a try. I continue to experiment.

Good luck to you!
