Be glad too. I got Buddy when he was 14wks. I crate trained him. It was my first time using a crate and I believe that is what did it. He slept in the crate at night and at 6:00am I took him out. I have to get up for work so it was not a problem. I put the gate up across the kitchen while I got ready, he cried but I could do nothing else. Out again before I left at 8:10. I went home for lunch for 6wks to take him out at 12:15 and back into crate until 5:30 out after dinner at 7:00 again at 9:30. He never pooped in the house but had a couple of accidents peeing. I would correct him by saying No in a stern voice and take him out immediately. I also gave him a treat every time
I took him out IF HE DID HIS BUSINESS. I used a very little piece of liverwurst as the special reward. Never use the same reward in the house only for outside potty. Make it special so they have something to look forward too. I know it was a long period of time in the crate but I had
no choice and Buddy was fine. I did not put water in there with him.
He got water when he was out in the am and at lunch time and after 5:30.
Again no water at nightime in the crate. He was there to sleep. He never messed in the create, not once. Today he has full run of the house and I am gone for 9hrs. Never an accident. He was completely trained by 5mos and water was left at this time during the day if he needed it. I left him gated in the kitchen until he was about 1yr then let him loose during the day. He had some chewing problems during this time but we over came it. It takes time and patience. Good luck.
Carol & Buddy
P.S. same schedule on the weekends until he was trained.
