It's normal but you should decide now if you want him in your bed or not. If you don't want him in your bed you have to put up with the crying...ignore it except for potty breaks...until he accepts it.
If you react to the crying, you are teaching him that is what it takes to get what he wants.

When you say he is trying to leap on the bed, is he free to move around the room? I would suggest using a crate or an xpen if he is going to be on the floor. It helps with the training, it is safer for him and like Lauren said it does become a secure environment for them.
