Whenever my dogs barked at me I would give them a hand signal and say speak. then I would reward them for speaking. After they got the hang of that. I would make the same hand gesture and move it from left to right and say "no speak". Then I would reward them for the silence. It really works because I have been able to tell them "no Speak" when a visitor comes and they are just amazed that they quit barking. The hand gesture I use is " I use my index finger and thumb and open and close them repeatedly for speak. Then for "no speak" I make the above gesture once and move it sideways like a minus sign in the air. Does that make sense? For my Husky I use all of the fingers, kind of looks like the quack , quack motion one would make with their hand. It is worth a shot. Let me know if this helps. Sit and speak and of course no speak are the first tricks I have taught all of my dogs.
