This happened to me last summer. I still have no idea how my # was stolen, but several purchases were made online over the 4th of July weekend. My CC card company called me that Monday and immediately cancelled my card. I do lots of online purchasing, but I never give my # over the phone and I don't use it at restaurants or anyplace else where my card is given to someone. I haven't had any problems since switching my number and I wasn't responsible for any of the charges, but it was a pain anyway!!!
