Last year I had a similar experience with my male yorkie.I got a tip that really worked wonders:
Buy freeze dried liver treats at your local pet store. Crumble them in a blender to a fine power that you can store in a jar. When you put the food out, sprinkle a small amount of the liver powder over the top.
