Also, lately he hasn't been eating while I'm gone. It's hard to get in the habit of feeding him and then picking up the dish when he won't eat at all! And when I'm at work I have to leave the food out.

Isn't the Baby Dog Royal Canin just for weaning a puppy -- like 4-8 weeks old? Are you going to continue with it til 10 months and old enough for the adult RC?
I free feed mine kibble all the time. That way I know they won't go hungry. Then they get their canned food mixed with more dry once a day. They eat a good amount of kibble -- the canned is just to give a little variety.
