The male should ALWAYS be smaller than the female. A friend of mine bred her 4 lb and 5 lb female with her 6 lb male. Her 4 pounder's second pup died. He was WAY TOO BIG. It took them over an hour of pulling and yanking to get him out. Her 5 pounder didn't have near the problems except after her water broke, she wouldn't push. They ended up having to do a c-section on her.
