If you were married in 2006 then you need to file at least married and seperate, but as far as I am concerned my hubby and I come out better if we file jointly. If you married in 2007 you will have to file single for 2006. You are allowed certain tax breaks if you file married and jointly that would not be afforded to you if you file married and seperate. The best way is to have the software calculate the return both ways and view each outcome. If you are completely uncomfortable filing online go back to your tax professional, but TaxAct, TurboTax, and H&R Block's tax preparation software asked all the questions you need. Most of the tax prep sites offer online help, but you can always go to www.irs.gov and search for answers to any question you may have pertaining to your tax questions. I hope this helps somewhat!!
