Nicole- it does sound like she is barking to get your attention. if you give her attention when she barks, then you are giving her positive reinforcement, so basically you are rewarding her for barking. When I was training Tino when he was a puppy and now Bunny... when they are barking like that and looking at me to get my attention, I deliberately turn my back at them and say nothing. This lets them know that they get the opposite of what they want (attention) when they bark. Its really important not make any eye contact or say anything when you do this.

I know there are many ideas about how to get them not to yap, I read this in a puppy training book and its worked for me. Tino and Bunny only bark when they hear a strange noise or they are "warning" me about something which I am thankful for. I feel that when they look at you and bark its considered "yapping." That is what bothers people and their neighbors, but a dog that barks bc its their nature is just being a dog! Hope this helps!
